There are still a couple of months of summer left so even though the new Autumn/Winter collections will be showing up in Buenos Aires' boutiques very soon, your summer wardrobe still has a way to go. Here are some of our summer fashion do's and don'ts to keep you looking (and feeling) cool for the remainder of the summer season.
DON'T wear super short shorts
If they look like underwear and we can see your cheeks, put them away. A longer, looser, more demure cut is infinitely more comfortable and stylish.
DON'T put your boots at the back of your closet
You may think summer is exclusively for sandals, but when it starts to cool a little, a pair of ankle boots can instantly transform your summer look, adding a 90s grunge or boho chic edge.
DON'T be afraid to show some skin
We are definitely not talking about going full 00s, with midriff on show and skirts that bear more resemblance to belts, but the crop top is a summer wardrobe staple. If you’re afraid of showing too much skin, pair your crop top with a high-waisted skirt or pair of shorts.
DON'T be afraid of colour
Embrace colour. Summer is your time to dress vibrantly or otherwise add a pop of colour to your outfit with a boldly coloured accessory (think hot pink or citrus shades). Buenos Aires shops are not short of colourful items and accessories, so when it comes to being bold, you have no excuse.
DO embrace the off-the-shoulder trend
It's all about baring your shoulders this summer season. The flattering Bardot top has been this summer’s must-have item and it's the perfect way to show off your sun-kissed skin in a sophisticated and classy way. Or give a loose fitting shirt a summer reboot with an off-the-shoulder twist.
DO embrace all white
White is the ultimate summer colour. It’s bright and airy and, above all, makes you look really tanned. Dressing in head-to-toe white is effortlessly chic and a great look for the Buenos Aires shopping scene.
DO incorporate some fun prints into your look
Stripes, gingham, floral prints... while your style may be limited to more muted tones in the winter, summer style is about having fun with what you wear. Your clothes should reflect your mood and who isn’t happy in summer?
DO bold sunglasses
Set your Wayfarers aside and embrace your inner Jackie O with big, bold glasses frames. We love the oversized retro frames, cat eye styles and circular metal-framed models. Buenos Aires has some great local Argentine sunglasses designers, where you can find some really unique shades.
DO wear hats
Carry the shade around with you. There is nothing more stylish by the pool than a wide-brimmed hat, not forgetting the protection it gives your face against those dangerous UV rays. No-one likes wrinkles.
